History

Launched in 1949, when the British motorcycle industry was in its heyday, the Royal Enfield Bullet has been in continuous production for over 50 years! Originally built at Redditch in Worcestershire, a plant was opened at Madras back in 1955, in order to supply the Indian military & police.

After the collapse of the British motorcycle industry in the 1970's production continued uninterrupted in India and the factory currently has the capacity to produce over 50,000 machines per year. Now brought into the country by Watsonian Squire of Sidecar fame

The original Royal Enfield Bullet Engine that had been in production since the 1950's saw the introduction of the Electric start as an option on 500 models in 2002 and the 5 speed bullet 65 in 2003 . The 500cc Electra 'x' was launched in the UK in October 2004 and marked a significant step in Royal Enfield History with the first major engine development for years. To meet more stringent emission laws around the world a new lean burn engine has been developed , incorporating Electronic ignition , cv carb and Alloy barrel . This has been coupled with the introduction of a disc brake , new Avon tyres and gas rear shocks.

That brings us today and finally the Original engine has been phased out (for export) due to ever more stringent emission regulations in Europe . The New Bullets now come with the UCE (Unit construction engine) and the future of this unique brand has been secured. Complete with electronic fuel injection and Electronic Ignition  Classic biking has just got better .Royal Enfield recognise that they have an authentic classic motorcycle and will continue to produce machines that retain the typical Royal Enfield style. With this next generation of Royal Enfields you can experience pure motorcycling as it was intended, with the added reassurance of a reliable, but authentic, 500cc single.
